Now, onto some of my opinions, ones that aren't guaranteed to cause a massive storm of rage and hurt feelings. What am I discussing?

Bases. My opinions on bases are pretty straightforward. I don't like bases, not do I like the majority of users who use them. Notice I said   majority. I'm not penalizing every base user, just a large percent of them.

My bone to pick with most base users is not a lack of talent, but a lack of effort. This is an art site. And, art should reflect emotion, passion, and some kind of skill. Most base users don't display the latter in their works, and it makes it look very lazy. I personally throw up a bit in my mouth when I see bad base work. Bad base work is literally just using the fill tool and making some lines. I know everyone can do better than that, and it's a shame these base users are the ones who ruin it for the good ones who put time and effort into their work.</b>

Now, to users who do use bases and put some effort forth. You can only learn so much from bases, as they are just templates. You can't learn everything from them, so try drawing freehand once in a while! Use tutorials. Experiment, keep trying! You'll get there eventually!

Now, I have gathered some examples of good (and bad) base work from the depths of deviantart to show you!

Good examples:

Bad examples: (keep in mind I'm not making fun of these artists. If they improved in the time that I pulled this base for this, then that's good! I am just using examples.)
